Cross-functional collaboration is increasingly recognized as a key factor in achieving sustainable development goals, as this critical review examines its role in promoting sustainable development across industries, highlighting the importance of collaboration between different organizational functions and external stakeholders in driving sustainable practices and outcomes, while exploring benefits such as enhanced innovation, improved decision-making, and increased resource efficiency, alongside challenges like siloed thinking, communication gaps, and conflicting priorities, drawing on theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence to identify best practices including clear goal-setting, fostering a collaborative culture, and leveraging technology for communication, concluding with recommendations such as investing in cross-functional training, creating collaboration incentives, and integrating sustainability into core business processes, ultimately emphasizing cross-functional collaboration as a critical enabler of sustainable development that requires breaking down silos and working toward shared sustainability goals.
